A Singapore-flagged container vessel, CMA CGM San Diego, berthed at berth No. 4 of the Yongzhou Container Terminal at Ningbo Zhoushan Port on January 1, 2026, becoming the port’s first “mega” container ship of the year, according to Zhejiang Online .The vessel is 328 meters long with a deadweight tonnage exceeding 117,000 tonnes and is scheduled to remain at the port for 15 hours, during which about 2,000 standard containers will be loaded and unloaded.
In response to risks linked to cold waves, strong winds and other adverse weather conditions at the start of the year, maritime authorities strengthened real-time monitoring and early warning of meteorological and sea conditions, promptly issuing alerts to the ship, the port and agent companies, and urging the implementation of safety measures including vessel stability checks and reinforcement of mooring equipment.
On the other hand Ningbo-Zhoushan Port surpassed 20 million TEUs in container throughput by late June, reaching the milestone 15 days earlier than in 2024 and setting a new half-year record, according to port authorities. Whereas Ningbo-Zhoushan recorded more than 100,000 cubic meters of LNG bunkering by the end of May—its highest annual volume to date and a key benchmark in its transition to cleaner marine fuel
.Data show that in 2025 the Yongzhou Container Terminal handled an annual container throughput of 3.882 million TEUs, up 45.6% year on year, while the number of vessel calls reached 4,131, an increase of 27%, with both indicators posting strong growth.
Officials attributed the growth to expanded partnerships with shipping lines and port operators, as well as the rollout of a dual fast logistics model combining Sea-Rail Express and China-Europe Express services. The port also added new routes and optimized slot allocation to meet rising demand. The Zhoushan Maritime Safety Administration said it would continue to optimize maritime supervision and services, advance digital transformation and improve multi-agency coordination to support steady growth in port throughput.

Ningbo Zhoushan Port has a vast port region and long coastline, with a coastline stretching across 220 kilometers. It consists of 19 port areas, owns more than 200 large deepwater berths for vessels over 10,000 dwt., and more than 115 large and super-large deepwater berths for vessels over 50,000 dwt. Ningbo Zhoushan Port owns and operates most large and super-large deepwater berths in Mainland China.. The port also brought Zhejiang province's first integrated wind, solar, and energy storage terminal online at its Meishan Low-Carbon Terminal.
Connecting to the busiest trade routes in Pacific ocean, with China’s most vigorous Yangtze River Delta economic region as its hinterland, Ningbo Zhoushan Port is the ideal distribution center for cargos to and from Mainland China. By the end of 2019, Ningbo Zhoushan Port has developed connections to more than 600 ports in 190 countries and regions, with nearly 250 trade routes, among which 120 ocean-going lines.
The cargo volume in Ningbo Zhoushan Port has grown rapidly since 2005. In 2019, the container throughput of Ningbo Zhoushan Port reached 27.535 million TEUs, standing firmly in the 3rd place in the world. The total cargo throughput reached 1.12 billion tons, ranking 1st worldwide for 11 consecutive years.
