The drugs belonged to various drug-trafficking organizations associated with the Gulf Clan, a Colombian drug cartel responsible for about 70 percent of Colombia's cocaine

The Customs ADM and Monopolies Agency ADM  in Genoa, in collaboration with the Genoa Provincial Police's Financial Police, seized 2,109 packages containing, along with their packaging, a total of over two tons of narcotics at the port of Samberdarena. A preliminary analysis conducted during the inspection revealed the substance to be pure cocaine according to Shipping Italy

A statement said the Huge quantity of the shipment was hidden inside 87 colored jute bags, wrapped in nylon netting, and was discovered by customs and financial police officials inside a container coming from South America, which had left one of the main ports in Colombia. This operation is the result of intensive monitoring efforts on trade routes that link, among other places, South America with the port of Genoa, which has historically been a major meeting point for trade flows to Europe..If the 2,380 kilograms of seized drugs had been put on the market, they would have generated huge profits for criminal organizations, estimated at around 1.5 billion euros, according to estimates by the Financial Guard and Customs.

Effort to combat international drug trafficking,

The statement read: "This seizure is part of a sustained and targeted effort to combat international drug trafficking, and aims, among other things, to protect the most vulnerable groups in society, who are often exposed to the harmful effects of this criminal phenomenon. "The statement concluded: "Once again, the cooperation between the Financial Guard and the Customs and Monopolies Agency forms an impregnable fortress for the security of citizens and the maintenance of public order."

The same scenario occurred in 2019, withthe same smuggling method.

It is noteworthy that in the same time nearly  at 2019  Italian authorities intercepted a whopping €630 million ($721 million) in international cocaine shipments. The cocaine was seized in Italian ports on shipments from Latin America to Spain.

Italian police said Thursday 2,.1 tons of pure cocaine  ( the same Huge quantities )with a street value of €500 million ($575 million) had been seized at the port of Genoa. The cocaine cakes were discovered in 60 bags inside a container heading from Colombia to Barcelona in Spain via Italy.
"The seizure, worth about half a billion euros, is the largest recorded in Italy in the last 25 years," Italian police said in a statement.

Authorities determined that the drugs belonged to various drug-trafficking organizations associated with the Gulf Clan, a Colombian drug cartel responsible for about 70 percent of Colombia's cocaine.
