The Safedigimar project, a new European initiative dedicated to cybersecurity in the maritime and port sector, has been officially launched. This initiative follows a grant agreement signed at the end of 2025 between the European Commission and a strategic consortium comprising France Cyber Maritime, FEPORT (the European Association of Private Port Operators), and the Federation of the Maritime – Cluster Marittimo Italiano to enhance the cyber resilience of European ports with a focus on small and medium-sized
The project, funded under the Digital Europe Programme ( the Italian Maritime Cluster / Federazione del Mare,,) FEPORT ,Federation of the Maritime ) , aims to support the marine ecosystem in implementing the NIS2 Directive, the EU regulation that imposes higher cybersecurity standards for critical infrastructure.on NIS 2 maritime and port cybersecurity measures

The project benefits from the complementary expertise of the three partners: France Cyber Maritime, which has been running the French Maritime Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) since 2020, will be responsible for developing solutions specifically designed to protect operators from digital threats Meanwhile, FEPORT and,Federation of the Maritime thanks to their institutional and industry networks, will be responsible for disseminating best practices and communication, and ensuring that information reaches all stakeholders in the supply chain
It is noteworthy that the end of 2025, the European Commission officially signed a grant agreement with a consortium including France Cyber Maritime, FEPORT and the Italian Maritime Cluster /Federation of the Maritime following their successful application to the call for proposals on the SAFEDIGIMAR project. The need for organized intervention, as stated in a joint statement, stems from the rapid digital transformation that has impacted the logistics and shipping sectors. While automation has enhanced competitiveness and efficiency, it has also revealed new vulnerabilities in the sector.
The three organizations, which are fully committed to supporting the maritime and port sectors in enhancing their cybersecurity and resilience, will now officially launch the project. The project partners share the conviction that the award of this project is timely since, as the maritime and port sectors have undergone a rapid and unprecedented digital transformation that enhanced performance and competitiveness, this has simultaneously made them more vulnerable to cyberattacks.
In a complex geopolitical context, port resilience is of paramount importance not only for trade but also for the Union's strategic security (energy supplies and military mobility). Particular attention will be paid to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which often lack the financial resources to independently adapt to the complex requirements of the New Investment Strategy II (NIS2). Furthermore, while the organizations are united in their backing of the NIS 2 Directive, they also recognise the need to provide cost-effective solutions and assistance to SMEs. This support is essential to ensure effective implementation that enhances cybersecurity and resilience across industry.
“Since 2020 France Cyber Maritime’s mission is to provide concrete responses to cybersecurity challenges by operating the Maritime CERT (computer emergency response team) dedicated to the maritime, port and river sectors, while supporting the cybersecurity industry in developing solutions tailored to the maritime world. However, although our home port is France, the answer to these challenges lies not in isolation but in cooperation.
With SAFEDIGIMAR, we are collectively creating, on a European scale, the conditions for our resilience in line with European regulations that strengthen digital trust, such as the NIS2 Directive” says Mr. Christian Cevaer, Director France Cyber Maritime
Our goal is to ensure that essential information on the NIS2 Directive and tailor-made cybersecurity solutions reach all stakeholders, from policy makers to SMEs. By fostering a culture of awareness and sharing best practices across our network, we ensure that the sea remains not only a driver of economic growth but also a secure and resilient space for all European citizens” concludes Ms. Laurence Martin, Secretary General, ” ,(Federazione del Mare )
