A U.S. company-managed bulk carrier was struck by suspected hostile fire in the Persian Gulf. This is one of several attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend, occurring at a time when the United States and Iran remain unable to agree on a permanent ceasefire.
In Warning 056-26, UKMTO stated that the vessel’s master had reported that the impact had sparked a small fire on board. The crew successfully extinguished the blaze, and there were no reported injuries or fatalities. There was also no environmental impact resulting from the incident.
On Monday, the UK's Maritime Operations Centre reported that the Safesea Neha (IMO 9563392, MMSI 538012373 - sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands. ), a 590-foot bulk vessel sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands and managed by the US-based Safesea Group, had reportedly been hit by a projectile on 10 May near Doha, Qatar. The incident resulted in a small fire, but fortunately, there were no injuries aboard the 16-year-old ship.

This attack marks the first in a series of attacks against merchant ships with U.S. ties since the commencement of the peace process between the U.S. and Iran. Providing logistics support for United Nations peacekeeping missions, the World Food Programme, and the U.S. General Services Administration is a crucial role played by the vessel.
Headquartered in Piscataway, New Jersey, Safesea specialises in vessel management and other maritime logistics services. The source and type of the projectile have not yet been identified, and no organisation has claimed responsibility. Maritime security officials are continuing to monitor the situation while investigations are ongoing. According to ship tracking sources, the vessel in question is the Safesea Neha, which is flagged to the Marshall Islands.
