Today - Sunday, a Palau-flagged oil tanker was hit off Oman's Musandam Peninsula, injuring four people, according to the country's Maritime Security Center. This incident follows drone strikes on the Gulf country's commercial port of Duqm.
These incidents mark the first time that targets in or near Oman have been hit in a wave of retaliatory strikes by Tehran against Gulf states following joint U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran, which have plunged the region into a new war. Initial information indicated that four of the 20 crew members, who are composed of 15 Indian and five Iranian citizens, sustained injuries of varying severity, it added.

The Oman Maritime Security Centre said in a post on X that the 20-person crew of the Skylight tanker was evacuated after the attack, which occurred about five nautical miles north of Musandam's Khasab Port. The center did not specify what hit the tanker. Initial information indicated that four of the crew members, who are composed of 15 Indian and five Iranian citizens, sustained injuries of varying severity, the center added.
The Musandam Peninsula in Oman shares control of the Strait of Hormuz with Iran. This vital strategic chokepoint is through which roughly a fifth of global oil consumption flows. Earlier on Sunday, Oman's state news agency reported that two drones hit the Duqm commercial port, injuring one expatriate worker. The agency added that debris from another drone fell near fuel tanks in Duqm, but there were no casualties or material losses from that incident
Skylight's registered owner is Sea Force Inc and it is managed by Red Sea Ship Management LLC, LSEG data shows. Both could not be immediately reached for comment. Ship monitoring service Tankertrackers.com described Skylight as a small tanker that was mostly used for fuelling other vessels and had been anchored in Musandam governorate since February 22.
