The planned centre will handle essential food commodities and bulk grains. Warehouses are designed for up to 100,000 metric tonnes of storage, supported by advanced silos and grain-handling systems. Infrastructure works will include a dedicated vehicle-loading facility, conveyor belt systems and specialised ship-unloading equipment serving berths 37 and 39 to speed vessel discharge, reduce turnaround times and improve integration with the wider logistics network.
Mawani and ARASCO state that the investment is intended to increase the port’s grain-handling capability and reinforce the Kingdom’s strategic food reserves.by developing warehouses with a capacity of up to 100,000 metric tons. The project is expected to create more than 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, support national and regional supply networks and provide value-added logistics services.
Moreover, the project includes establishing an integrated vehicle-loading facility, installing conveyor belts, and developing ship-unloading equipment to link berths 37 and 39, boosting operational efficiency and ensuring seamless integration between the port and the broader transport and logistics ecosystem

The facility forms part of ARASCO’s five-year strategy to raise annual grain imports through King Abdulaziz Port to over 5 million metric tonnes by improving handling efficiency. King Abdulaziz Port, which has 43 berths and annual handling capacity above 105 million tonnes, is described as the main maritime gateway for Saudi Arabia’s eastern and central regions; the new complex is expected to strengthen its role in food and agricultural imports. The project also aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to expand port capacity and deepen private-sector participation.
