An Italian tanker was stopped in the port of Sarroch (Cagliari) by inspectors specialized in navigation safety, serving at the Cagliari Port Authority, after having ascertained that the vessel had carried out, in a prohibited stretch of sea, operations to wash the tanks of previously transported chemical products and subsequently unload the residues.
According to SHIPPING ITALY, the tanker in question would be the Odoardo Amoretti, of the Emilian shipping company of the same name, a 15,000 DWT unit built in 2012.
By the satellite system
According to the note released by the press agencies, the blitz would have been triggered by a report received by the French maritime authorities by the satellite system called Clean sea net, used by the European Agency for the Safety of Navigation (EMSA).

Satellite images showed
Satellite images showed the results of the discharge into the sea and indicated the Italian tanker as a possible source. Once on board, the inspectors found that when the washing and unloading operations began, the ship was still in a restricted stretch of sea, because it was too close to the coast, “therefore not operating in compliance with the provisions of international conventions for the prevention of marine pollution”.
The hypotheses of crime of negligent pollution
The documents collected will be forwarded to the judicial authorities for the hypotheses of crime of negligent pollution and violation of the rules on navigation safety. Furthermore, from further investigations, some irregularities related to navigation safety emerged that led to the administrative detention of the ship that will be able to resume navigation only after having removed all the contested criticalities.
