Turkey :. SAAM Towage announced that it has received a new high-performance tug, which was named SAAM Guanay and built by Turkey’s Sanmar Shipyards. The new Boğaçay Class vessel, the 13th built by Sanmar Shipyards for SAAM Towage, is based on Robert Allan’s RAmparts 2400SX MKII design. This unit has been specifically designed to optimize maneuvering in ports with restricted space, combining versatility with high installed power.

SAAM Towage’s Director of Sustainability and Development, Pablo Cáceres, confirmed that “the SAAM Guanay brings together the design and power required for today’s operational challenges, incorporating eco-friendly systems that significantly reduce NOx emissions. It is an ideal solution to support our customers in a reliable, safe and sustainable way.”

Technology and sustainability

The vessel stands out for its compliance with IMO Tier III environmental regulations, thanks to its Caterpillar 3516E engines and selective catalytic reducer (SCR) system. With a length of 24.4 meters and a beam of 12 meters, the vessel boasts 80 tons of bollard pull.

Its main technical features include:

• Firefighting capability: FiFi-1 certification.
• Energy efficiency: Advanced automation systems that optimize consumption in all phases of operation.
• Design: Wide beam for greater stability and safety during maneuvers.
