Port Said: January 14, 2026 : Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority SCA  announced the success of the Authority's maritime rescue efforts in rescuing all crew members of the cargo ship "FENER" in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The rescue operation was carried out immediately after the ship's captain issued a distress call, prompting the necessary rescue operations for the crew after the vessel listed 10 degrees to starboard and began to sink. this occurred while it was outside the canal's traffic channel in the western waiting area north of Port Said, about 5 miles west of the northern entrance to the Suez Canal in the Mediterranean Sea.

Two tugboats were prepared and three marine launches 

Rabie indicated that as soon as the Port Said Port Movement Office and the main navigation control center received the report from the captain of the general cargo "FENER" at 11:30 pm on Tuesday, two tugboats were prepared and three marine launches of the Bahar type were deployed to evacuate all 12 members of the ship's crew and secure the ship during the crew rescue operation.

A message of reassurance regarding the health condition

The chairman of SCA  issued a message of reassurance regarding the health condition of the crew, confirming that all crew members are in good health, and that the necessary health care services were provided to one of the crew members who suffered a dislocated shoulder at the Suez Canal Hospital for Ribat and Ship Lights (Anwar El sofin ) belonging to the authority.

Provide logistical services

Rabie praised the efforts of the Authority’s personnel from various departments and sections in dealing immediately and quickly with the requirements of the emergency situation, as the Authority’s Movements Department took charge of immediately dispatching the necessary marine units to proceed to evacuate the crew. Meanwhile, the Authority’s Services Department provided ambulance services by dispatching equipped ambulances and dealing with the injured person, ensuring that she received treatment at one of the Authority’s hospitals and was discharged. In addition, the security and public relations departments will coordinate with the relevant authorities, provide logistical services, and then transport the crew to a hotel at their request.

A range of new navigational and logistical services

The chairman of SCA indicated that the authority’s crisis management committee is monitoring the developments of the emergency situation around the clock and raising the level of readiness to take the necessary measures to deal with the ship adding that the Suez Canal has introduced a range of new navigational and logistical services to meet the needs of customers in normal and emergency conditions, most notably marine ambulance services and crew change services

Admiral Rabie concluded his statement by emphasizing the readiness of the Suez Canal Authority to professionally handle potential emergencies through an integrated system that includes navigational competencies, accumulated expertise in maritime rescue operations, and specialized marine units in maritime rescue, navigational insurance, and pollution control
