On Monday, December 1st, at 3:00 PM, dockworkers will gather in Rome, in front of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, to demand the implementation of the redundancy fund." The confederal unions Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti announced the news: "We have been waiting five years in the ports for the implementation of the provisions of the National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL) renewal and the provisions of the law."
The issue," the unions explain, "can no longer be postponed, especially in the world of port work, where complex, dangerous, and exhausting tasks are performed. Therefore, the early retirement fund becomes an indispensable tool for meeting retirement requirements." The battle has been going on for years, but so far has never yielded the desired results. "Dockworkers," Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, and Uiltrasporti finally state, "cannot wait in vain any longer for a tool that ports desperately need, because the competitiveness of a maritime port is measured by the efficiency and specialization of its workforce."

The employers' associations Ancip, Assiterminal, Assologistica, and Uniport also announced that they will be participating with representatives at the event. In a statement, they wrote that "the establishment of the Fund is required by law, desired and agreed upon by the parties, including through an agreement formalized during negotiations for the previous renewal of the (CCNL), a law in effect since 2021 but never implemented.
The establishment of the Fund," they added, "is in the interests of the productive and organizational system of port companies and was designed to facilitate generational turnover, recognizing that a rapidly evolving and transitioning sector like the port sector needs to accommodate this change, the inclusion of new resources and professional profiles, and the protection of those Dockworkers who, in certain roles, cannot be expected to be employed until they reach retirement age."

The terminal and port associations added in their statement: "It is unusual for associations representing companies to demonstrate alongside trade unions, but the message we want to convey is that, where interests are shared and represented transparently and fairly, it makes sense to do so together. This obviously does not mean that, where differences remain, such as on the issue of holiday pay disputes, positions remain distant and clearly opposed. But this too is part of the dialectic of industrial relations and of how we responsibly intend to assert our role and the interests of the companies we represent: companies that are made up of people."
"Dock workers cannot wait in vain any longer for a tool that ports desperately need," the union statement concludes, "because the competitiveness of a maritime port is measured by the efficiency and specialization of its workforce, the main infrastructure of a port system."
