A feasibility study for a passenger and freight maritime line
Among the proposals that emerged from the discussions, the idea of launching a feasibility study for a passenger and freight maritime line between Gioia Tauro and Tangier attracted particular interest and appreciation. The initiative aims to establish a direct connection between the two shores of the Mediterranean to facilitate trade between Italy and Morocco, foster tourism and industrial cooperation, and strengthen economic and cultural ties. As Domenico Naccari, Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Morocco for Calabria, emphasized, "Strengthening cooperation between Italy and Morocco means investing in stability, development, and logistics innovation."

The discussion also included the development of the Gioia Tauro hinterland, an infrastructure considered essential for the region's logistical and productive revitalization.

The potential of Gioia Tauro, a leading international logistics hub, can only be fully realized through a network of stable and complementary relationships with other Mediterranean ports. Special Commissioner Paolo Piacenza confirmed that the collaboration with Tanger Med goes "exactly in this direction, opening new prospects for intermodality, passenger traffic, and the growth of the hinterland."

The Gioia Tauro municipal administration, through Mayor Simona Scarcella, confirmed that it welcomes initiatives that enhance the port and its related industries, believing that dialogue with Morocco opens up "new and concrete scenarios" that can reposition the city at the center of Mediterranean trade and cultural routes.
The parties' joint efforts now focus on maintaining a permanent discussion forum to translate this vision into concrete instruments for economic and institutional cooperation between the two ports and their respective territories, consolidating Calabria as a natural bridge between Europe and Mediterranean Africa, in line with the objectives of Euro-African cooperation.
