The company's operational strength now rests on a fleet of 955 vessels, comprising 688 owned ships and 267 chartered units, offering an unparalleled network that spans every major trade route on the planet. The company's growth trajectory shows no sign of slowing. MSC boasts an orderbook of 124 newbuilds, representing a  significant leap forward in both scale and technological sophistication.

MSC overtook long-time rival Maersk 

These incoming vessels, many of which are designed with alternative-fuel capabilities and energy-efficient technologies, are expected to further consolidate MSC's leadership while advancing its environmental and operational objectives.

This milestone comes just a few years after MSC overtook long-time rival Maersk to claim the top position in early 2022. Since then, the Geneva-based carrier has continued to expand aggressively through both strategic acquisitions and disciplined fleet investment, effectively reshaping the competitive

MSC is notoriously private in discussing its strategy and new orders. The expectation however is that they will continue to widen the gap from the remainder of the sector even as carriers such as CMA CGM are also following an aggressive strategy for new construction
