In a joint statement, CBA Studio Legale and Norton Rose Fulbright — advisors to Caronte & Tourist and a group of banks, respectively — announced a new €40 million financing transaction for the Messina-based shipping company. The company, which is 37.5% owned by the Matacena family through Caronte SpA, 32.5% owned by the Franza family through Tourist Ferry Boat SpA, and 30% owned by the Basalt fund through Ulisse Italia Srl, did not provide any information regarding the purpose of the financing. Caronte & Tourist only stated that "this is a financial transaction to support the group's business plan.
The company's revenue for 2024 was €176.1 million, but its EBITDA was negative at €45.3 million, with a net equity of €86.7 million. The release of the latest financial year's figures is pending. The balance sheet closed with a profit of €1.3 million, which is the lowest in the last five years.
