The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced the addition of Maersk’s new AE19 shipping service to the Port of Jeddah, which will significantly boost the kingdom's maritime connectivity with global markets.Vessels capable of carrying up to 17,000 TEUs are used for this high-capacity service, which links Jeddah to primary Asian hubs. These hubs include Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Xingang in China, Busan in Korea, and Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia. The route extends to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa and strategic Mediterranean hubs before reaching Singapore.
.Additionally, Mawani added Hapag-Lloyd’s SE4 shipping service to the port of Jeddah. This expansion is in line with the objectives of Vision 2030, which aims to establish Saudi Arabia as a major global logistics hub. The project is expected to boost the competitiveness of Jeddah Islamic Port and support the growth of national exports by improving access to international supply chains.
Meanwhile, the Jeddah port continues to expand its operational footprint, utilizing its 62 multi-purpose berths and specialised terminals to support a total handling capacity of 130 million tonnes With a capacity of up to 17,000 TEUs, the service aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to establish Saudi Arabia as a leading global logistics hub connecting three continents, according to the statement. TradeArabia News Service reports that this new route will link the Saudi port city to major international hubs, including Tianjin Xingang, Qingdao, Ningbo, and Shanghai in China; Busan in Korea; and Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia.
