In light of the recent military conflict in the Strait of Hormuz and the surrounding region, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the European Shipowners' Association (ESCA), and the Asian Shipowners' Association have issued the following statement:"Our primary concern is the well-being of the seafarers and civilians affected. We are deeply concerned about the attacks on seafarers and the tragic loss of life. Our thoughts are with the families of those affected.
The statement was addressed to All parties must take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of seafarers who find themselves in a highly volatile situation through no fault of their own while simply doing their job.”
The statement noted that it is a fast-moving and unpredictable situation. It is crucial that the entire industry relies only on verified information from trusted sources.
The statement urges all ships operating in the region to conduct thorough risk assessments and maintain vigilance in accordance with the latest Best Management Practices (BMP) maritime security guidelines. Ship operators should monitor and act on updates issued by official channels.
Meanwhile, UKMTO received a report of an incident at the Port of Bahrain. According to the Company Security Officer, the vessel U.S. flagged products tanker Stena was hit by two unknown projectiles, which caused a fire. The fire has been extinguished, and the vessel remains in port. All crew members are safe and have evacuated the ship. Authorities are investigating. Vessels should remain cautious.

In contrast, CENTCOM has stated that the Persian Gulf strait remains open, even in the face of a recent and direct threat from the Revolutionary Guards to vessels navigating this crucial oil export route
Meanwhile, according to state media reports, a senior Revolutionary Guard Corps official said that the Strait of Hormuz is closed and threatened to set ablaze any vessels that pass through it.The Persian Gulf waterway, the world's most vital oil export route, is at risk of being choked off, which could cause crude prices to skyrocket. According to Fox News, however, the U.S. military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strait was still open.
While in remarks carried by Iran's state media, Ebrahim Jabari, a senior adviser to the Guards commander-in-chief, said: “The Strait of Hormuz is closed. Anyone who tries to pass will be met with fire from the Revolutionary Guards and the regular navy.”
